How can I create a Shaft Report?

Ventus supports Shaft Reports differently than ContamW:

A Shaft Report plots the pressure drop (dP) and airflow rate (flow0 or flow1) for Flow Paths around the shaft (or stairwell) as a function of Zone. Ventus is designed to sort and export this data efficiently for your Shaft Report. You can then use an external program, like Microsoft Excel, to view and plot simulation results and compile a Shaft Report.

A. The Select Flow Path Network Action

This is the recommended approach to generate a shaft report.

Visit the relevant Ventus User Manual section.

B. The Find Advanced Search

Visit the relevant Ventus User Manual section.

C. Manual Results Filtering by path Name

To see this operation as part of a hands-on tutorial, visit the Basic First Model Tutorial or the Validation #3 Tutorial.

  1. When creating the model, on the first Level, name the Flow Paths around the shaft something specific, for example Door1_Hall.
  2. Use the Copy/Move tool to create upper Levels. Every time that you copy the Zone and Flow Paths between Floors, Ventus copies the object name and adds a count, for example Door1_Hall_1.
  3. Create and run the model.
  4. On the right of the workspace, click Path Data. This displays all Flow Path results for the simulation in the Results panel.
  5. To filter results relevant to a shaft report, in the Results panel search box enter the original name, for example Door1_Hall. Ventus filters the Flow Path data and only shows objects that match this starting string.
  6. If needed, change the order of data columns by selecting and dragging the headers of the columns to the desired location. The Elevation column indicates what level the Flow Path corresponds to.
  7. Select the data and copy it to a spreadsheet to make a graph of the results. Note that whether the pressure difference is positive or negative in Path Data depends on the direction used when defining the Flow Path in Step 1. The display of the results in the 3D View Window is always drawn showing the direction of pressure difference or flow.

Ventus efficiently supports diverse workflows through the flexibility of sorting and exporting data. We hope that this system meets your needs, and we remain open to feedback. For more information, please contact Thunderhead Engineering Support: support@thunderheadeng.com.
